Competitions
UGA Spring Smash 3.0
- Results: 5th Place (2-2)
- Bracket Style: Double Elimination
- Win vs Space Force PN
- Win vs split conclusion
- Loss vs Torbor V2
- Loss vs 180i
- (Tomfooleri was a side project plant weight that was designed a few weeks prior to spring smash 3.0 and was built the night before. Expectations were not high but it ended up coming 5th and winning some fights.)
- (The main takeaways were the lack of bite in the weapon and the lack of room for electronics. Room for the electronics was made with a dermal and a soldering iron. And the weapon was effective mostly out of luck.))
- Bracket Style: Double Elimination
Version
Tomfooleri V1.0
Created by: (Names of Builders/Group Members of aforementioned version of bot)
Drive Motors | Repeat Mini Brushed Mk2 |
Drive Motor Controllers | Repeat Budget Ant DESC |
Weapon Motor | FLASH HOBBY D2822 Brushless Motor 2600KV 2-3S |
Weapon Motor Controllers | DH 20A 2-4S Waterproof Brushless ESC Electronic Speed Controller with 5.5V/4A BEC and XT60 3.5mm Banana Head Connector for Model Ship RC Boat (20A) |
Receiver | Hobby King 2.4Ghz Receiver 6Ch V2 |
Remote Control | Hobby King 2.4Ghz 6Ch Tx and Rx V2 |
Battery | (3S Lipo wrapped in electrical tape) |
Problems
- No space for electronics
- Due to electronics bulging out, bot was no longer invertible
- Weapon had little to no bite
- Weapon ESC shut down after running at full throttle
- Prints had low wall count leading to fragility
- Weapon motor press fit failed
- Amazon boat esc worked but was too bulky
Good aspects
- PLA drive wheels using hot glue as traction worked far better than anticipated
- Weapon motor being hot glued into weapon to supplement press fit was effective
- Parts were very easy to replace with spares (frequently damaged parts were modular)
- Passed safety, competed, and won 2 fights!
Changes/Improvements
- Make space for electronics in chassis
- Make drum with more bite instead of weird beater bar
- Put wheels inside chassis to serve as protection
- More walls when printing less infill
- Some kind of wedge or forks
