Battlebots, just another excuse for an engineer to relieve stress and cause ensuing panic and carnage. Sounds like fun eh? More seriously though, Battlebots is a competitive organization of remote controlled vehicles that most closely resembles cage fighting or wrestling. "The box is locked, The lights are on, It's robot fighting time!" That announcement signals a rush of adrenaline to surge through the veins of two competitors like nitrous oxide shot into the cylinders of a big block V8. These competitors fight, at times, to the death; but not with each other, instead, with their robots. I'm not talking about your ordinary R2D2, but creations from hell that make even the strongest man squeal like a pig.

The world of robotic combat is a lot more than just engineering a r/c unit. It's an art, where people (men, women, doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.) take their deepest fears, desires and dreams, and mold it into a Battlebot. A creation that everyone fears, and yet at the same time everyone loves. These beasts are the future athletes of the world, in the sport the robotic combat.

Battlebots is an online competition in which two robots fight gladiator style, at times, to the death. The robots are limited to weight and weapon type. The classes range from 50 gram robots to 340 pounds.

Competition: June 12-14 BotsIQ, San Francisco, Ca

Schedule

Team Plan for '08-'09
This year we are designing and building a new battlebot for the 220 lb weight class. We will also get B.A.M.B.II back into working order and, pending on the budget we get for this year, will hopefully have her as a secondary bot to be taken to competition. Currently, it looks like we will be designing a full-body spinner for this year. This design will take substantially more engineering than the previous bots that we have created. As the design is slowly being finalized, construction will begin within the month.
