Revision as of 06:21, 9 November 2013
The wireless subsystem will provide a robust link between the computer and the robots. The system has not been designed yet.
Previous work
Last year we used the Linx HP series modules, they suffered poor performance (perhaps due to design issues).
Preferred Features
Preferred features include (in semi order of importance)
- Out of common frequency (415 MHz, 3.5 GHz, 5.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz)
- Module
- Simple to design and interface with
- Transceiver
- Physically small
- Energy efficient
- Data rate???
Suggested Solutions
- Sparkfun has some modules
- Nordic Semiconductor makes some interesting ASICS
- Sirensa
- Linx Technologies
- HP3 series - what we used last year and what every other team uses. Operates on 900MHz band
- LT Series - transceiver module. Operates out of band. Small and surface mounted. 10kbs. Only requires an antenna! $12.89 each.
First Prototype Solution
For the first prototype we will be using the Linx HP3 series with a Linx ANT-916-CW-RH 1/4 wave antenna. The antenna has a RP SMA connector.
