This page describes the layout and general functionality of our server. It lists the services we currently run and how each service should be handled. All configurations for such services are in the default directories (usually /etc) unless otherwise stated. All ports are standard unless otherwise stated.

== Apache ==
All websites files are located at /var/www and user sites are in the public_html directory for each user. Collab, Wiki, and other http services are all configured and used through Apache.

== SSH ==
OpenSSH server is installed and running on the server. Currently there is no special configuration for the ssh server itself. Permissions should be handed out loosely and shell access only given to those with a legitimate need.
== Subversion ==
Subversion is run using the Apache Web_dav module and configured through Apache. Subversion repositories are located in /home/subversionRepos which is the repository root, and all of subversion is managed using SVNManager and accessed through https://svnmanager.robojackets.org.

Users with permission can change their passwords and admins can change permissions and other repository features. Subversion setup can be examined by looking at the Apache configuration. Each repository is accessed through https://svn.robojackets.org/<repoName> (ie. for IGVC repository the root path would be https://svn.robojackets.org/igvc).
== Custom Scripts ==
All custom scripts are located in /root/computerSetup. The runSetup.sh script is run when the computer boots up, others are run by cron jobs or manually.
=== IPTables ===
The IP Tables setup script is located in the file iptables_setup.sh. It is responsible for setting up the IP tables for the entire server. This script runs when the computer boots.
=== Boot Email ===
The emailer.sh script sends an email when the server is rebooted/booted. It currently just sends the IP address to but can be extended to send more. This has a few misspelling in it mainly and echo command currently exho though nothing keeping it from sending out an email.

The backup.sh script is run by a cron job and saves backup files to /root/bkps. They are timestamed with YYYYMMDD-<desc>.<extension>

The backup job is run every day at 3AM and backups that are over 7 days old are automatically deleted.

====Software====
The GPS is attached to COM2 (RS232, /dev/ttyS1, 19200 8N1) on the TS-7800.
The GPS outputs a rising edge signal to allow precise time keeping,
gpsd interfaces with ntpd and reads the DCD line on COM2 to provide time information via network interface.

====Status====
gpsd trys to automatically determine the baud rate for serial communication,
needs to be recompiled so that the baud rate is fixed or a command line option.
ntpd should be trivial to have running as soon as gpsd is working reliably.
The default player NMEA driver may need to be modified to make use of the 5Hz update rate,
and to be aware of the precision time signal.

We may be able to connect the encoder to the back of the motor instead of near the wheel. There is a recessed shaft (under a cover) at the back of the motor that is hexagonal (~0.79" diameter x ~0.17" long). As for mounting, there are four screw holes (size 8-32) equally spaced around the outside of the motor (~3.5" apart longways) and two recessed screw holes (size 8-32) inline with the outer holes (~2.7" apart longways). The inner holes don't have very much clearance to the motor wall near the outside (~0.15").

Make certain all officers and team leaders both have the necessary access and know how to post to the website. Also maker sure people who need to be able to post the gallery both know how to and have access as well. In addition to accessibility, keep them fresh, updated and alive.

=====Mechanical Engineering Brochure=====
This is a brochure that the ME department uses. They use this for one whole year and it is given out to prospective students, new students, possible sponsors (either to us or ME), visitors, and interested parties. This will also be given out by us at many events and should offer a good overview of who we are and what we did last year. To update this, talk to Rona Ginsberg and update the other things that are handed out that talk about us.

=====Intro Event Hand Out=====
Something about the size of a post card (maybe bigger). It should have our intro meeting time, date, location, logos of each event, the location of the SCC, and a short about us.

=====Business Cards=====
Should have the contact info for the Pres, V Pres, website, and for your self since you are the contact for all thing media related.

=====List of Leaders and Contact Info=====
Once the new officers and if necessary new team leaders have been decided, you need to update the list of Leaders and Team Leaders. This list should have both the cell number and email address of each team leader and officer. This is needed by Sterling Skinner (man who is in charge of the SCC) and it needs to be posted in the electrical room.

=====Shirts=====
Inventory all of the shirts and find out how many of each type and size. Figure out how many we need of each and get a quote.

===Events===
There are two important events that always happen and are a good source for new members. Also find out what else is going on around campus there will be more check with RIM and ME. Also look for department hosted socials to kick off the new school year these are great place to have a table and promote the RoboJackets. In addition, many schools have locations where you can put up a poster or some brochures.

This is the freshman student orientation. There are six events and this is by far one of the best ways to meet new and incoming students.

This one you have to setup and plan. It is suggested that you have it in the student center ballroom (because new students will at least east know where the student center is located). It should also be on either the second or third week of class and not on Friday. Booking the event will cost some cash though not a lot (less than $100). Before the intro meeting you should visit each school ME, AE, EE, CS, etc and try to get the to spam their list about our meeting (around the first week of school). Once booked, the student center contact for events will need to meet with you about 2 to 3 weeks before hand to verify and make sure you are getting what we need.

Make certain all officers and team leaders both have the necessary access and know how to post to the website. Also maker sure people who need to be able to post the gallery both know how to and have access as well. In addition to accessibility, keep them fresh, updated and alive.

=====Mechanical Engineering Brochure=====
This is a brochure that the ME department uses. They use this for one whole year and it is given out to prospective students, new students, possible sponsors (either to us or ME), visitors, and interested parties. This will also be given out by us at many events and should offer a good overview of who we are and what we did last year. To update this, talk to Rona Ginsberg and update the other things that are handed out that talk about us.

=====Intro Event Hand Out=====
Something about the size of a post card (maybe bigger). It should have our intro meeting time, date, location, logos of each event, the location of the SCC, and a short about us.

=====Business Cards=====
Should have the contact info for the Pres, V Pres, website, and for your self since you are the contact for all thing media related.

=====List of Leaders and Contact Info=====
Once the new officers and if necessary new team leaders have been decided, you need to update the list of Leaders and Team Leaders. This list should have both the cell number and email address of each team leader and officer. This is needed by Sterling Skinner (man who is in charge of the SCC) and it needs to be posted in the electrical room.

=====Shirts=====
Inventory all of the shirts and find out how many of each type and size. Figure out how many we need of each and get a quote.

===Events===
There are two important events that always happen and are a good source for new members. Also find out what else is going on around campus there will be more check with RIM and ME. Also look for department hosted socials to kick off the new school year these are great place to have a table and promote the RoboJackets. In addition, many schools have locations where you can put up a poster or some brochures.

=====FASET=====
This is the freshman student orientation. There are six events and this is by far one of the best ways to meet new and incoming students.

=====Introductory Meeting=====
This one you have to setup and plan. It is suggested that you have it in the student center ballroom (because new students will at least east know where the student center is located). It should also be on either the second or third week of class and not on Friday. Booking the event will cost some cash though not a lot (less than $100). Before the intro meeting you should visit each school ME, AE, EE, CS, etc and try to get the to spam their list about our meeting (around the first week of school). Once booked, the student center contact for events will need to meet with you about 2 to 3 weeks before hand to verify and make sure you are getting what we need.

== SSH ==
OpenSSH server is installed and running on the server. Currently there is no special configuration for the ssh server itself. Permissions should be handed out loosely and shell access only given to those with a legitimate need.

Subversion is run using the Apache Web_dav module and configured through Apache. Subversion repositories are located in /home/subversionRepos which is the repository root, and all of subversion is managed using SVNManager and accessed through https://svnmanager.robojackets.org.

Users with permission can change their passwords and admins can change permissions and other repository features. Subversion setup can be examined by looking at the Apache configuration. Each repository is accessed through https://svn.robojackets.org/<repoName> (ie. for IGVC repository the root path would be https://svn.robojackets.org/igvc).
== Custom Scripts ==
All custom scripts are located in /root/computerSetup. The runSetup.sh script is run when the computer boots up, others are run by cron jobs or manually.
=== IPTables ===
The IP Tables setup script is located in the file iptables_setup.sh. It is responsible for setting up the IP tables for the entire server. This script runs when the computer boots.
=== Boot Email ===
The emailer.sh script sends an email when the server is rebooted/booted. It currently just sends the IP address to but can be extended to send more. This has a few misspelling in it mainly and echo command currently exho though nothing keeping it from sending out an email.

=== Backup ===
The backup.sh script is run by a cron job and saves backup files to /root/bkps. They are timestamed with YYYYMMDD-<desc>.<extension>

The backup job is run every day at 3AM and backups that are over 7 days old are automatically deleted.

==Description==
The Inverse Kinematic Arm project is an independent research endeavor that isn't affiliated with a robotics competition. The goal of the project is to explore control algorithms for implementing inverse kinematic control. This form of control is where the position of the end of the manipulator is controlled directly by giving it coordinates in 3 dimensional space to move to. The control algorithm is designed to determine what motions all the joints of the arm need to perform in order to achieve the desired end effector position.

The project will be conducted using a 3 degree of freedom arm that was taken off of an old bomb disposal robot(bombbot) that was donated to the Robojackets by Dr. Wayne Book. Each joint is controlled independently by Vantec Motor drivers taken from the bombbot. Also, each joint has a potentiometer connected to it for positional sensing. All of the motor drivers and potentiometers are connected to an Atmel AVR development board which serves as an RS-232 adapter for the robot. Currently, the AVR board will connect to the serial port of a computer, which will control the robot using Labview.

Initially the goal will be to implement forward kinematic control of the robot, which entails independent PID control of each joint and determining the position of the end effector. Then several different inverse kinematic control algorithms including:
* Velocity controlled IK
* Path Controlled IK
The last goal of the project will be to implement hybrid control of the arm position in order to achieve multiple objectives simultaneously.
