The power system includes all three buses (unregulated motor, isolated 5V, and isolated 3.3V), regulators, filter caps, opto-isolators, the pwr monitor circuit, and finally the battery.

To-Do

  • Determine what voltage and amperage the motors are going to run at. This will ultimately be the battery voltage since the motors will be fed from the main batteries
  • Get a rough estimate on current draw for the rest of the system. This dependent on how shooter will work and on rollers.
  • Pick battery
  • Spec out optos, regulators, and battery monitor. This should be a no-brainer
  • Breadboard circuits

Power Budget

Needs to be cleaned up, but all info is correct as of 1/11/2007

System Voltage Current Power
Optoisolators 7 pcs 5?mA ea 5V 35mA 175mW
Wireless Rx and Tx 5V 40mA 200mW
uP 3.3V 5mA 16.5mW
Status LEDs 2 pcs @ 10mA ea 3.3V 20mA 66mW
Ball Sense System; (Detector + LED + Buffer) 2 pcs @ 20mA ea 3.3V 40mA 132mW
Motor Controller 4 pcs @ 20 mA ea 5V 80mA 400mW
Motors 4 pcs @ 750 mA ea 9V 3000mA 27000mW
Dribbler Controller 1 pcs @ 20 mA ea 5V 20mA 100mW
Dribbler Motor 9V 400mA 3600mW
Kicker 9V 850mA 7400mW
Gyro 5V 10mA 50mW
Accelerometer 3.3V 5mA 16.5mW
Encoders 4 pcs @ ~10mA ea 3.3V 40-60mA 132-198mW
555 3.3V 15mA 49.5mW
CPLD 3.3V 5mA 16.5mW

Totals

  • 3.3V 110mA
  • 5V 205mA
  • 9V 4250mA

Data sheet listed power for the optoisolators as !.002 mA! so 5 mA was used instead. Encoders are still up in the air. Maxon encoders draw 5*N channels (3) mA each (10 or 15 depending on # of channels we use).
