Getting the most out of the gallery
Our gallery is divided in to two distinct parts the archive and the media section. The media section contains logos and good images of the robots that we would want for thing such as brochures, handouts, and banners. The archives contains photos and videos from previous events, robot builds, competitions and other notable things. In the archive you will see that it is divided up by each team or project and then by year.
RSS Feed
The gallery has a bunch of RSS 2.0 feeds (for each, album, sub album and more). The main one is located at http://www.robojackets.org/gallery/main.php?g2_view=rss.SimpleRender&g2_itemId=7, but it only shows activity with in a past time frame so most likely it will be empty.
Notes
Gallery 2 can display the exif data about the image and its full size.
Uploading
First Login
On you first login you should edit your profile and change your password this can be done by clicking on my profile in the top right corner. Note: Here you can also change the way your name is displayed on posts.
Adding an Image
Don't worry about resizing them. Try to select the best ones don't upload 100s (unless your uploading an entire event or build). Some of these pictures could be and are used in our publications so keep that in mind as well.
- For starters you should navigate to your event or sub album that is for your event.
- Click on Add Items (located on the left sidebar)
- You will see several tabs each has a different way of uploading this to the gallery
Note: Don't worry about rotating images. If you camera can sense its orientation and adds that to the EXIF data gallery will auto rotate the image to the correct orientation.
Web Form
This is the best way to add a few (5) images. Just click browse, find your files, and upload.
Web Page
If you have your own site you can upload the images to it and then type in the path to the folder on your site. Gallery will the download and add the images.
Local Server
To do this you need either FTP access or ssh login. Upload the files the server and then tell gallery where they are.
Upload Applet
You will need Java for this. You can drop the files in to the applet from you computer and then upload them.
Gallery Remote
This one also requires Java. Its pretty much a more heavy duty version of the Upload applet. Here you don't have use a web browser.
- Download and install Gallery Remote.
- Input the url of the gallery, your login info.
- Browse to the correct sub event.
- Drag and drop in images.
Adding a Movie
Yes, you can add movies to the gallery. You need to do it via either the web form, scp, or ftp. You then add it the same way you would an image. It is suggested that you convert the video the a flash video (flv). The gallery has a player and can play these. Plus they are smaller and easier on our server. The easiest way to convert to flv is to use the Riva Flash Encoder.
- Download / Install riva flash encoder
- Select video
- Select setting (offline) or use
<preset> <videoframerate value="25" /> <videobitrate value="1600" /> <videosize value="640x480" /> <pass value="undefined" /> <deinterlace value="true" /> <sound value="true" /> <audiochannels value="2" /> <audiobitrate value="56" /> <audiosamplingrate value="22050" /> </preset>
