How to Guide Allen Keys
From GT RoboJackets
ALLEN KEYS (aka HEX Keys)
Hex keys are used for loosening and tightening "Socked Head Cap Screws"
The heads of these screws have a recessed 6-sided socket.
These are superior to standard phillips and slotted screw heads because they are less likely to strip out during installation and removal.
These are also nicer than standard hex head bolts because they look nicer and take up less head space.
RULE 1: ALWAYS Return the hex keys you use to their proper holder and put back in toolbox. RULE 2: DO NOT use hex keys which have been rounded off or are not the proper size. This will ruin your screw head.
Hex key sets are found in both Standard (inches) and Metric (mm).
Do not use one in exchange for the other, they are not compatible.
Metric screws use only metric hex keys and vice versa.
Some hex keys have rounded balls on the ends for easier access to hard to reach screws.
While these tools are nicer, they usually round off more easily, due to the lack of edge force area along the hex edges.
